Drip Cap (Head Flashing)

An L-shaped metal flashing installed above windows and doors that directs water away from the top of the frame and prevents it from running behind the siding.

In Detail

Drip cap has a hooked front edge that breaks water tension and directs runoff outward, away from the window or door. The top leg slides behind the WRB or siding above. It's one of the most overlooked flashings — missing drip caps allow water to wick between the window frame and rough opening, causing concealed rot. Available in aluminum, galvanized steel, and copper.
