Ice & Water Shield

A self-adhering rubberized asphalt membrane installed at roof eaves, valleys, and penetrations to prevent leaks from ice dams and wind-driven rain.

In Detail

Ice & water shield (also called peel-and-stick) is required by IRC R905.2.7.1 at eaves in areas where the average January temperature is 25°F or less. It must extend from the eave edge to at least 24 inches inside the exterior wall line. It self-seals around roofing nail penetrations, preventing leaks even when ice dams form. Also used in valleys, around skylights, chimneys, and plumbing vents.
