A measurement standard in framing indicating the distance from the center of one structural member to the center of the next.

On center (OC) spacing ensures uniform load distribution. Standard residential framing uses 16" OC for walls and floors and 24" OC for some roofs and advanced framing. The OC measurement is from center-to-center, not edge-to-edge.
