Ridge Vent

A continuous vent installed along the peak of a roof that allows hot air and moisture to escape from the attic. Works with soffit vents to create natural convection airflow.

In Detail

Ridge vents are the preferred exhaust ventilation for most residential roofs. A 1.5"–2" slot is cut along each side of the ridge, and the vent is installed over the slot, then covered with ridge cap shingles. The vent uses external baffles to create negative pressure from wind, drawing air up from the soffit vents. Provides the most uniform ventilation pattern — no hot spots or dead zones like gable vents or turbines.
