Cedar Shingles

Red cedar, white cedar, and prefinished options — natural wood roofing with proven durability and timeless beauty that fits right into the Adirondack landscape.

What We Carry

Red Cedar Shingles

Western red cedar — the classic choice for natural wood roofing. Naturally resistant to rot, insects, and moisture. Rich warm color that weathers to a distinguished silver-gray.

  • #1 Blue Label (premium grade — tight grain, 100% heartwood, 100% edge grain)
  • #2 Red Label (standard grade — some flat grain, minor defects allowed)
  • 16″ and 18″ lengths
  • 4 bundles = 1 square at standard exposure

White Cedar Shingles

Eastern white cedar — a regional favorite that's lighter weight and more affordable than red cedar. Naturally resistant to decay with a lighter, more uniform color.

  • Extra grade (clear, knot-free)
  • Clear grade (minimal defects)
  • 16″ and 18″ lengths
  • Excellent dimensional stability

Prefinished Cedar Shingles

  • Multiple factory-applied colors available
  • Stained or solid-color finishes
  • Reduced on-site labor — no drying time needed
  • Special order — 2–3 week lead time

Why Cedar for Roofing?

Installation Notes

Cedar shingles require spaced sheathing or a ventilation mat over solid sheathing to allow proper airflow and drying. This is especially important in our high-moisture North Country climate.

Use stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized nails only — standard galvanized nails will stain and corrode. We stock the right fasteners alongside our cedar shingles.
